WSHPA Membership Meeting

August 31, 2003

 

Meeting called to order by president Ron Kohn at 8:05 p.m. Had a moment of silence for the members who had passed away this year.  Secretary Dan Markley read the minutes from last meeting and they were approved. Treasurer Marty Quillen told of balance in account and that a report would be printed in a following ringer report.  1st Vice-president Patty Ingraham had nothing to report.  2nd Vice-president Kevin Smith had nothing to report, Secretary Dan Markley reported an increase in membership from 224 to 247.

Dewey Howard, Hall of Fame Chair, reported that two people were elected to the hall of fame and would be announced the next day. 

Publicity Director Dean Schmitz spoke on how there was a lot of publicity about the world tournament this year, thanked Steve Summerlin for directing people in the right direction, reported on the clubs that got newspaper coverage. There were several papers around Michigan that published articles. Dean thanked Bob Mullenhour for his work in promoting the juniors who pitch and for the help he gives them.

There was no unfinished business.  Under new business; reported the doubles in Auburn is two weeks before the state tournament and one week after the world tournament.

Patty Ingraham read the proposals and the were voted on with the results being:

Change Article VI: Section 3. to read:             

“District tournaments under jurisdiction of the WSHPA shall start at 10:00 a.m.

Proposal Failed

 

Change Article V: By-laws Section 4 as follows to clarify the cost of a membership card (No increase in dues):

“Annual membership dues are $30.00.  Dues shall be distributed as follows:”

Add $12.00 NHPA Dues and re-letter the list.

Proposal Passed.

 

Add to Article VII (State Tournament) Section 8:

“This association shall award the Junior Boy and Junior Girl State Champion a $100 scholarship each. These scholarship monies shall to be awarded upon a college, university or trade school’s letter of enrollment to the association. This award must be claimed before their twenty first birthday.”

Proposal Passed

 

Add to Article V (Bylaws) a Section 13:

“In the event this association should take action to no longer function, the assets of the association shall be awarded to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA).”

The next to last sentence of paragraph 3, Section I, Article VII: State Tournament should have a comma after the last word (“abilities”) instead of a period, and the following words added after the comma.  “and which gives each player a fair opportunity to compete against opponents with ringer averages established in accordance with Section 9, Article VI.”

Section 13 Rain Procedure

B.  In the last sentence… “and money refunded except court fees”; delete the words “except court fees.”

C.  Change second sentence to read:  “If still raining, play will be cancelled but, if any class has completed one half or more games, winners will be decided by wins and loses of games, or by ringer percentage pitched, if there are ties.”

Proposal Failed

Election of Secretary and Treasurer.  Dan Markley voted secretary and Marty Quillen treasurer.

Bob Wells spoke on good and welfare work; talked of banner for St Jude. Reported that $2,088.00 was collected this year for St Jude.

Jack Alexander made a motion to adjourn and was seconded by Rob Boller.  Meeting adjourned.
