
PAUL WISHON Berkley, MI
Paul started playing horseshoes in 1964 around Detroit and entered the AAU competition. He also played at
the State Fair.Paul joined the WSHPA and NHPA in 1969. Paul started the Berkley Horseshoe Club over on Harvard Street in 1978. In 1979 Paul's buddy Marv Kangas joined the club and provided Paul with all the help that he needed. In 1980 the club was moved to the present location. At first there were only 10 courts. The courts were later moved to the back of the recreation building and five courts were added. They now have 15 courts with pads for all positions and brand new clay has been added this year, They expect them to be the best courts in the state. Paul remembers placing for the first time in the WSHPA at Burr Oak. He placed 3rd in class C and still has the trophy.
![]() Paul is a founding member and also a charter member of the Berkley Horseshoe Club. Paul served 4 terms as President of the Berkley Horseshoe Club. Paul served as Tournament Director for the Berkley Horseshoe Club. Paul served as Publicity Director for the Berkley Horseshoe Club. Paul served as Chairman of the WSHPA Membership Committee. Paul served as Chairman of the WSHPA Publicity Committee. Paul won Class B in the State Tournament held at Dimondale in 1987. Paul pitched in the World Tournament held at Greenville, Ohio in 1977. Paul pitched in the Mid-West Tournament held in Indianapolis, In. several times.
Paul was the Horseshoe Tournament Director for the Michigan Senior Games for 4 years. These games were held at Oakland University and at the Berkley courts.Paul is a Berkley Days Association member and was an organizer for the Berkley Days Horseshoe Tournament Paul is a promoter of horseshoes at the local level which is very important as the local clubs are the grass root level of horseshoe pitching. ![]()
