STAN SWARTHOUT       Milan, MI

Stan started pitching at the age of eleven and pitched in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He served in the U.S.NAVY and pitched some horseshoes on the islands in the South Pacific.
Stan joined the W.S.H.P.A. in 1969 and won the first tournament he pitched in at Greenville MI. Class D 6-1 44%.
He was the state Assn. horseshoe salesman for four years.
He served as the state Vice pres. Three years.
Stan served as the state regional director of horseshoes. Two years.
He served on the hall of fame committee as well as others.
He was instrumental in the building the courts in Dundee Mi.
Stan served as the club Vice Pres. and was the tournament director for the tri county tournament.

He was the Vice Pres. of the Milan Mi, area horseshoe club and was the tournament director for the Milan open.
Stan pitched on the Mi. team in the MICH./ONT. Friendship tournament since it was formed in 1972. He missed only one in 1979 due to a heart attack and a by pass operation.
But he came back in 1980 and was the runner up to Roy Smith in the state tournament. 10-1 65%.
Stan has pitched in four World Tournaments and was a delegate to the national convention. In the Greenville Ringer Classic, He has won Class(F) 65%.
Class (C) 3rd. place, Class (B) 3rd. place and Qualified for Class(A) with a 82%

Stan has won over 65 District Tournaments in his class over the last 20 years.
He has defeated some of the best pitchers in MI. and Ohio.
He defeated Jim Knisley twice, in Toledo and Marion Ohio.
He defeated Paul Focht, Wilbur Kable, Stan Manker, Danny Kuchcinski and Gary Roberts.
His greatest game was against The Great Curt Day in the Water Wonderland where they pitched over 100 shoes and Stan gave a good account of himself.

Stan finished 2nd. to Knisley in the Capitol city Open 1981 70.9%.
He tied for 1st. place with Knisley in the Curly/Baker Memorial in Toledo and took 2nd, in the play off. 198I.

Stan was a class (A) pitcher for over 17 years, now age is a factor and he has slipped to class (B) and (C).

His all time high game was a 86% in a State Tournament.
He has finished 2nd. and Third and once tied for third in a state Tournament.
