
JOHN DECKER Holt, MIJohn started pitching horseshoes at the Miller Road Hall in South Lansing.
John has been a member of the NHPA and WSHPA since 1975.John belonged to the Chief Okemos Sportsman Horseshoe Club and still pitches with the Greater Lansing Area Horseshoe Club. Over the years John has held numerous offices in the Lansing club. He ran the junior program and is still chairman of the constitution and by-laws committee. John won the club championship one year by pitching in the dark. He pitched 75%. John was Regional Director for many years. John sold horseshoes all over the state for many years. John has traveled all over the state promoting horseshoes and helped to start many clubs. While Regional Director John helped run the Mid-West Tournament. John has pitched in many World Horseshoe Tournaments, the latest being Red Deer, Alberta, Canada where he placed 3rd in Elder Class D.John has been the Michigan delegate at the World Tournament several times. John weighed and measured horseshoes at the World for 7 years. John and Earl Van Sant upgraded and made suggestions to improve rules to help guide Regional and Assistant Directors.
John ran for 5th vice president for the National one year and was nominated for 2nd vice
another year.John has many awards but is most proud of the Gene and Earl Van Sant Memorial Award in 1993 given for Regional Director of the year. John placed 2nd in 1975 class B, 1st in 1976 class D, 1st in 1978 class C-2 and 1st in 1979 class C in the State Tournament. 1st in 2002 Elder class B. John has made many friends over the years and has done as much or more for horseshoes in this time as anyone. Thanks for all the work and dedication John. ![]() ![]()
