Curtiss Places 3rd In The
World Horseshoe Tourny
Judy Curtiss of Blanchard recently finished in Third Place in the World Horseshoe Tournament,which was held in Bismarck, North Dakota.

This is a two week event, starting with the lower classes pitching first. Then the second week is the' higher classes plus seniors and elders.

To get into the Championship round, contestants, play 15 game round robins in their individual class. Officials take the 16 highest ringer percentage to get in the Championship Round.

In Championships, throwers, play another 15 games round robin, and this round is the best of wins and losses. averaging 79.31 percent.

Judy is always looking in the crowd to see her husband and coach (Max) to see if she has done something wrong, so he can try to help her if needed.

Syvianne Moisan of Canada took first place with 14 wins, 1 loss, averaging 83.65 percent. Amy Francis of Ohio finished 2nd with 12 wins, 3 losses, averaging 79.31 percent. Judy finished 3rd with 12 wins, 3 losses averaging 77.41 percent. The only game Sylvianne lost was to Judy.

Brian Simmons of Connecticut is the new Men's Champion.

All of the Michigan players from Auburn, Boyne City, Clio, Wyoming, Brighton, Lansing, Grandville and other cities around the state did very well.

Judy believes this is the first time since 1935 that, a woman from Michigan has done this well in the World Tournament. And back then, they did not have to play as many games as they do now.

Back in May, the team from Michigan, consisting of Judy Curtiss, Larry Kemp, Jim Wiltse and Jim Norville, went to Beloit, Wisconsin to the Team World', where they finished in 6th place. out of' 20 teams. Judy only lost one game out of 22

Judy also took First Place at the Annual Horseshoe Tournament at the Cornfest in Auburn in July.
