 NSHPA Meeting Minutes

 

ATTENDEES:           Twenty-five (25) 1999 NSHPA Members

                                    Seven (7) significant others

LOCATION:  Maggie’s Restaurant; Hawthorne, Nevada

DATE:                        August 28, 1999

 

 

·         Don Weaver recognized Foster and Carrie Kenton as our 1999 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championship Hosts.  Others recognized were ten (10) new members, Reno’s Club President, and four (4) juniors.

 

·         Foster Kenton was recognized as Class B Champion in the 1999 World Tournament held in Ohio.

 

·         The Financial Report was passed around for viewing.  Bert Peffers moved the statement be passed.  Elaine Perry second the motion.

 

·         Mention of the plaques purchased by the state reminded members that $1.00 from tournaments held was issued to the state fund and $1.00 was issued to the local club.

 

·         The following proposals were brought up for discussion:

 

1.        Display name on back of shirt in sanctioned tournaments.

·         Foster Kenton and Jim Costa stated having names on shirts would help scorekeepers.

·         Del Driskell was against names on shirt because the sport was to be fun and not matter how one was dressed.

·         There was no motion to have shirts with name on in sanctioned tournaments.

2.         Must play two sanctioned tournaments within the United States and Canada to qualify for the State Tournament.

·         There were no motions.

 

·         Don Weaver asked for any new business.  There was no new business to discuss.

 

·         Sites for the 2000 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships were opened. 

 

1.        Gary Wilson proposed Mesquite

2.        Ralph Degni proposed Hawthorne

3.        Del Driskell proposed Las Vegas

4.        Cas Bower proposed Reno

 

·         Bert Peffers moved the 2000 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships be held in Mesquite.

·         Geno Dawson moved the 2000 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships be held in Reno.

·         John Barney moved the sites be closed and voted on.  John Watkins second the motion.

·         Votes were as follows:

 

1.        Mesquite       (8)

2.        Hawthorne    (5)

3.        Las Vegas      (0)

4.        Reno               (9)

 

·         The 2000 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships will be held in Reno the weekend before Labor Day.

 

·         Nominations for Vice Presidents were as follows:

 

1.        Del Driskell nominated Gary Wilson.  John Watkins second the nomination.

2.        Jack Prien nominated Elaine Perry.  Neal Schulte second the nomination.

3.        Neal Schulte nominated John Watkins.  Gary Wilson second the nomination.

4.        Gary Wilson nominated Foster Kenton.  Jim Costa second the nomination.

 

·         Bert Peffers moved the four (4) nominees stand as elected.  The motion was unanimous.

 

·         Gary Wilson nominated Don Weaver as President.  Carrie Kenton second the nomination.

 

·         Don Weaver nominated Char Schulte as Secretary/Treasurer.  Bert Peffers second the nomination.

 

·         The nominations for President and Secretary/Treasurer were unanimous.

 

·         Gary Wilson solicited the Mesquite Tournament in October.  Anew club in Mesquite is currently being formed.

 

·         Check in time for Sunday’s session of the Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships was 8:00am.

 

·         Foster Kenton and Del Driskell will be playing best of seven (7) forty (40) point games in the Men’s Championships.

 

·         Everyone is welcome to join the September 11 and September 12 tournament held in Reno.

 

·         Juniors paying for tournaments was questioned.  Mention that California did not require Juniors to pay to play in tournaments.  Jim Costa moved that Juniors pay $2.00 to play in Nevada sanctioned tournaments.  Geno Dawson second the motion.  A unanimous vote was taken.

 

·         Don Weaver adjourned the meeting.
