Meeting Minutes
LOCATION: Burro Inn Casino; Beatty, Nevada
DATE: August 29, 1998
· President, Don Weaver, called the meeting to order.
· Thirty (30) NSHPA members were in attendance.
· Don Weaver, President, introduced all officers.
· A financial statement was passed out for review. Bert Peffers moved to accept the financial statement. Neal Schulte second the motion. Jim Callon voiced appreciation for Secretary/Treasurer, Char Schulte, her hard work and diligence in her position.
· A reminder was mentioned that the second round robin pitching would start at 7:30am on August 30. The standings and awards would be distributed after the tournament in the Burro Inn.
· Jim Gorth was introduced and thanked for his help with Nevada State statistics and computer assistance.
· Don Weaver solicited comments regarding the by-laws format utilized in 1998 State versus the format used in the 1997 State. Char Schulte preferred the 1998 State format due to more competition offered in the various divisions.
· John Bass was thanked for Hosting the 1998 Nevada State Horseshoe Championships. Next, John will be hosting the Pitch-n-Witch Tournament on October 31 and November 1.
· Foster Kenton gave a progress report on the new Hawthorne horseshoe courts. He read a letter from Parks and Recreation endorsing the construction of 16 clay courts to be available by October 1, 1998, for the 1999 Nevada State Horseshoe Championships. The courts will be located near the County Park. Don Weaver will be called by Foster Kenton to sanction the courts in Hawthorne, Nevada. Hawthorne will also be organizing a local club. John Bass offered the use of a jig for the construction of the courts.
· Appreciation for Reno participation was noted.
· A suggestion of State plaques versus plaques for each tournament was mentioned. A standardization of tournament entry fees would assist in this new venture. Out of each tournament entry of ten dollars ($10.00), a dollar ($1.00) would go to the state treasury to cover expenses. The money versus plaque option was also mentioned. Arguments for and against were spoken and an agreement that Reno and Las Vegas would gather information and later resume on the subject.
· John Bass moved that the 1999 Nevada State Championships be held in Hawthorne, Nevada. Bert Peffers second the motion. A vote made Hawthorne a unanimous decision. Bert Peffers suggested an alternate of Beatty, Nevada be noted. If Hawthorne courts are not finished by the end of 1998 a council will select an alternate location by January 15, 1999. The weekend of August 21 and August 22 was suggested due to the county fair. Char Schulte pointed out consideration of World Tournament being the first two weeks of August. John Bass asked about the availability of banquet facilities. Carrie Kenton stated all facilities are available and several with discount rates.
· Mention of free advertising beyond 100 miles through the Chamber of Commerce was available.
· The meeting asked for any further business. Don Weaver adjourned the meeting.
