NSHPA Meeting Minutes

- DON WEAVER opened the meeting.
- There were 36 entrants in today's HI-LO Doubles
- KEN JOSE and FRANK BLAZEK were acknowledged for the horseshoe membership growth in Tonopah. Tonopah's membership has risen to 27. Applause was given to all Tonopah help.
- FRANK BLAZEK acknowledged JAMES OLPIN for sponsorships throughout the years.
- 2007 membership to date has 111 adult members and 5 junior members.
- CHAR SCHULTE passed around copies of the '06-'07 Financial Report. NEAL SCHULTE motioned to accept the '06-'07 Financial Report as presented. LOIS PRIHEPA second the motion. The vote was unanimous.
- DON WEAVER mentioned there were 5 World Tournament Entrants in 2007. WARREN WILLIAMS and VIRGIL BIRGEN were class winners. CHAD HYATT made the cut into the top class finishing in 12th place. DON GORE finished 5th in his class and ROGER SCHWEBKE bowed out due to unexpected circumstances.
- DREW and NANCY SALAZAR were to check with the Visitors Authority on pins to trade at the World Tournament. Due to their absence, the information was relayed to CHAR SCHULTE. The only pins the Visitors Authority could offer were Las Vegas rather than Nevada. CHAR SCHULTE, after checking into the cost of pins, found them to cost at minimum $1.50 each in quantities of 1,000 or more.
- A suggestion to issue money rather than plaques at the State Championships was made by DON WEAVER. TOM MCQUEEN and LOIS PRIHEPA suggested a small plate as used for Nevada's Perpetual Plaque plus money. ELAINE PERRY preferred a trophy over money. A vote was taken with 19 for money rather than an award and 2 were opposed. NANCY HUSTED motioned to revote with exact wording feeling not everyone understood what they were voting for. The vote was rescinded by DON WEAVER. DON WEAVER motioned to keep the procedure as is. 19 votes carried the motion.
- CHAR SCHULTE mentioned to everyone that the website could not be updated and up to date if the information was not received.
- There are 41 entrants into the Nevada Championships on August 26, 2007. Options available are 1 shift or 2 shifts. DON GORE motioned to vote on 2 shifts. 16 votes carried the motion.
- TOM MCQUEEN motioned to change State Championships to Saturday and hold Doubles on Sunday. NANCY HUSTED second the motion. 16 votes carried the motion.
- LOIS PRIHEPA questioned why the Nevada State Championships were not held in September or October versus August. DON GORE stated August was the best for several reasons.
- Venues for the 2008 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships were put on the table. NEAL SCHULTE moved to have the 2008 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships held in Tonopah. JIM COSTA second the motion. No other locations were put up for voting. The vote was unanimous to put the 2008 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships in Tonopah. The 2008 Nevada State Horseshoe Pitching Championships will be held the last weekend in August before Labor Day, with a HI-LO Doubles Tournament the day after.
- Elections for President and a Northern Vice President were opened for nominations. JIM COSTA nominated TOM MCQUEEN for Northern Vice President. NEAL SCHULTE second the nomination. TOM MCQUEEN accepted the nomination and position being no other nominations. NEAL SCHULTE nominated DON WEAVER for President. GENO DAWSON second the nomination. DON WEAVER accepts the nomination. NANCY HUSTED nominated CHAD HYATT for President. ELAINE PERRY second the nomination. DON WEAVER received 24 votes and CHAD HYATT received 2 votes.
- DON WEAVER asked for any other business to be discussed. DON WEAVER informed everyone that check-in time for the Championships is 8am.
- CHAD HYATT motioned to adjourn the meeting. SCOTT HARDY second the motion.
- Meeting is adjourned.
