Seven (7) significant others
LOCATION: Maggie’s Restaurant; Hawthorne, Nevada
DATE: August 19, 2000
· Don Weaver opened the meeting with a joke.
· There were six (6) members recognized as participants in the World Tournament held in Bismarck, North Dakota. The participants and where they placed in their classes are as follows:
· Foster Kenton (7th)
· Carrie Kenton (5th)
· Gary Wilson (1st)
· John Barney (1st)
· Don Gore
· Frank Ayuste
· A special welcome was given to Hal Holbrook who pitched 69% to qualify for Nevada State Horseshoe Championships having not played for over one (1) year.
· Foster Kenton introduced the laws passed at the World Tournament of interest to Nevada. They were:
· The 2001 World Tournament to be held in Hibbing, Minnesota.
· The 2002 World Tournament to be held in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.
· Article 12 Section 8 referring to having ten (10) tournaments prior to the World Tournament was rejected. The ringer percentage divided by the prior year versus ten (10) sanctioned tournaments was also rejected.
· Dues changing from $12.00 to $22.00 putting $10.00 towards the Hall of Fame Foundation was rejected. It was decided the interest made would go to the Foundation
· The Financial Report was passed around for viewing. No comments or question arose. Don Gore motioned the Financial Report be as submitted. Don Faiss seconds the motion.
· It was announced the 2000 Nevada State Horseshoe Championships would start at 7:00am on Sunday, August 20, 2000.
· Lee Houston from Lovelock, Nevada and the Houston family invited members to have tournaments in Lovelock. Ten courts are scheduled to be constructed. Five courts are scheduled for Frontier Days in May 2001 and the remainder completed by the last weekend in July 2001.
· Proposals for the 2001 Nevada State Championships location were put on the table. Foster Kenton moved the Nevada State Championships be held in Hawthorne once again. Jim Costa seconds the motion. Char Schulte moved we alternate between Hawthorne and Beatty, Nevada, to accommodate all Nevada members. Don Weaver explained the disadvantages of having the Nevada State Horseshoe Championships in Las Vegas or Reno, Nevada. Minimum of $60.00 rooms and $25.00 banquet fee with a guaranteed number was not feasible nor welcomed. Don also mentioned what John Bass in Beatty, Nevada, does for our Charter. A unanimous vote selected Hawthorne, Nevada, as Nevada’s State Championships location in 2001.
· It was discussed to move the Nevada State Horseshoe Championships date to the second or fourth week in September. Foster Kenton moved to have the 2001 Nevada State Horseshoe Championships held the weekend before Labor Day. Jim Costa seconds the motion. The vote was unanimous. The 2001 Nevada State Horseshoe Championships will be on August 28 and August 29, 2001.
· A proposal to play two (2) sanctioned tournaments within the United States and Canada to qualify for the Nevada State Horseshoe Championships with exception to Juniors. Don Gore proposed the two (2) sanctioned tournaments to qualify with exception to Juniors. Elaine Perry moved to accept the proposal. Geno Dawson seconds the motion.
· A proposal to display name on back of shirt in sanctioned tournaments was brought up for discussion. There was no motion.
· Don Weaver asked for any further business. Foster Kenton stated there should be an incentive to bring new members into the Charter. Food for thought.
· Don Weaver adjourned the meeting.
