| Chris Moore has a heart for horseshoes and presents an excellent example of how a person may be inducted into our hall of fame without being a fabulous horseshoe pitcher. We need more members like her who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work to promote horseshoes. She has served our association in ways that few people have served: as a Vice President for eight years: as a Tournament Director at Biscoe for ten years; as our delegate to the national convention for several years; as a salesperson seeking to sell memberships; and as a person willing to sell horseshoes to any who are interested in buying some over and over again, Chris has demonstrated her willingness to help our tournament directors at other locations. Chris has a special interest in getting more young people and more women involved in horseshoes. As most of us know, funds available from county and city governments are very restricted. Consequently, it is difficult to upgrade and/or add new courts. Nevertheless, plans are ongoing to upgrade the courts at Biscoe to include new clay and backboards. We appreciate all that Chris has done and is doing to promote our sport. Chris has accomplished some recognition in her horseshoe pitching as well. In 1986, she won class A Women. In 1993, she accomplished the following: she won 7 1/2 games at the world tourney held in spearfish, South Dakota, and received a plaque: she was the class C points Champion of the Blue Ridge Horseshoe Club; she received a patch for the most improved horseshoe pitcher: and she finished second in the state class A Women. In 1995, she won the Jack Springer class D. In 1996, she finished second in class C of the Hickman Oil and Ice tournament in Troy. In 1997, she won class E of the Jack Springer Memorial and she finished second in class C of the Lapel Invitational that same year. As to how Chris got involved in horseshoe's, she and some fellow named Nehemiah (N. A.) went to Aberdeen in 1982 and got involved in a tournament run by a fellow named Douglas Shear (our past President who served as President for 18 years). Chris' most memorial event was her experience at the World Tournament in Spearfish, South Dakota. Chris has two younger sisters, one daughter, two grandchildren, and one husband. Chris is very proud to have been inducted into our Hall of Fame and she appreciates the support of all who put her there |
