| After several years of pitching horseshoes in North Carolina and several surrounding states, Earl and Wayne Roope had a vision of Wilkes County having a facility that would enable sanctioned tournament to be held locally. They organized a horseshoe pitching club and recruited members for what has became the "Blind Pigs Horseshoe Club." The Club has constructed 24 excellent horseshoe courts at River's Edge Park in Wilkesboro. Earl joined the NHPA in 1992 and since then has competed in tournaments nation wide. Earl's pitching accomplishments are numerous, some of the highlights are:
Earl has been involved in athletics throughout his life as a civilian and while serving in the Armed Forces. While in the Air Force, Earl was named Air Force Athlete of the Year in 1959 while assigned to the 810th Radar Squadron in Forsythe County. That year, he won and / or was part of a team that won the Southeastern United States Championships in horseshoes, and table tennis, volleyball, fast pitch softball, and tag football. In 1960, while in Alaska he pitched a perfect softball game and then two hours later, he won the Alaskan Territory Singles and Doubles Table Tennis Championships. Earl has been a blessing to those fortunate enough to know him. What he has done with his life and the impact he has had on so many is more than can be acknowledged here. I have never met a person that didn't like Earl Caudill. Earl loves the game of horseshoes as much as anyone you will ever meet. |
