Gaston County Parks and Recreation, along with Gaston County Travel and Tourism will sponsor the “Gaston County Clash”, a leg of the HP Pro Tour, at George Poston Park during the weekend of April 25-26.
Contestants will compete in preliminary rounds on Saturday, with the finals scheduled to begin around 10:00 on Sunday. Admission both days is free for spectators. Concessions will be made available.
The Gaston County Clash is the second of six tour events scheduled for the 2009 season. Other events will be held in Florida, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
Background:
The Horseshoe Pitching Professional Tour consists of over 50 players that are among the best in the sport. Their ranks include 7 current and former World Champions, who have combined to win a total of 24 World titles. The hail from 13 different states ranging from Florida to Maine, and Maryland to California, and include 22 current and former State Champions in their respective states. Altogether, they have amassed an impressive 161 State titles. Many HP Pro Tour members have been recognized for their contributions to the sport, 11 having been inducted into the Hall Of Fame of their respective states, and 2 members to the National Hall of Fame.
Division II: It’s not too late to play
If you would like to participate, and it’s not too late, you can do so by joining the Division II ranks, which has a lower payout, but plays the same format. These players consists of less than 50% ringer average.
