Spring Meeting Minutes April 9, 2006
Meeting called to order by Pres. Ron Kohn at 1:00. Ron asked for a moment of silence for members that have passed away this past year.
Secretary Debbie Markley read minutes from fall meeting, motion to accept minutes made by Bob Carr, seconded by Dave Loop.
Treasurer Marty Quillen read the treasurers report, motion to accept minutes made by Dan Markley, seconded by Dewey Howard.
1st Vice-President did not attend. Nothing to report. 2nd Vice-President did not attend. Nothing to report.
Secretary reported so far there were 155 members signed up so far this year.
Jim Campbell stated his daughter bought his card as Christmas gift and suggested something be put in the ringer report as a suggestion.
Bob Wells reported on audit and finance done on October 31st. Everything kept in a neat and orderly fashion.
Dewey reported on Hall of Fame. The ones that were inducted were Clayton Champion, Kevin Smith, Boyd Stonerock. Anyone wanting to nominate someone, fill out the form and get it to Dewey Howard by June 1st.
Publicity Director Dave Loop reported, that he thinks every tournament director should get the Newsline which is very informative and that you can also get your clubs and tournament information to Steve Summerlin and it could get put in the Newsline. Go to your local newspaper and try and get them to report about your tournament results. Wear your horseshoe clothing wherever you go so other people will see and ask about it. Connie Quillen stated that Comcast cable will advertise on public broadcasting channel for free.
Steve Summerlin ordered a banner for each horseshoe club to display during tournament.
Steve Summerlin stated that by 2007 everyone going out of the country would have to have a passport, you can get them at the post office.
There was no unfinished business.
New business: Debbie Markely reported that there was a replacement for Stan Swarthout in the lifetime member is Bob Wells.
Would everyone help the junior fund by buying shirts and raffle tickets.
Paula and Steve made some CD’s with all the papers you need to run a tournament; you can print them out at home and bring them to your tournament. Each club can have a website of their very own if they wish to report their club info and other interesting thing people could read about. Pitchwithus.com, if you wish, Steve Summerlin will set it up for you; get all the info about your club to him.
Ron asked if anyone had any comments on 30-foot pitchers pitching with 40-foot pitchers to make the tournament more competitive at the state finals.
If no one wants the 2007 Finals the executive committee will decide where its held. No one has asked as of now.
Ron has been communicating with Manton, a city about 12 miles from Cadillac about getting a tournament there if they can get 9 courts with 30-foot pads in by June 15th. If they do there will be an added tournament to the schedule.
No other new business. If you wish to pitch in the Michigan Ontario Tournament you must call Larry Kemp.
Ron Kohn reported that he will run for President next year.
