WSHPA Membership Meeting State Championships, Kalamazoo, MI September 1, 2001 President Dave Loop called meeting to order. Dave Loop announced that the Doubles Championships would be
held in Auburn on August 17, 2002 with the membership tournament August 18,
2002. John Decker made a motion to accept the minutes from the
last meeting as printed in the Ringer Report.
Approved. Paula Summerlin, 2nd Vice-President announced
that due to her appointment as Editor of the NHPA’s “Newsline” that she would
be resigning as WSHPA 2nd Vice-President effective the end of this
year. She will continue as “Ringer
Report” Editor and Statistician. Dewey Howard, Hall of Fame Chair, announced that they would
be inducting 2 new members into the Hall of Fame on Sunday. Dean Schmitz, Publicity Chair, thanked the WSHPA for their
support and any part in his receiving the NHPA’s Achievement Award this year at
the World Tournament. Steve Summerlin, Secretary, announced that he would not be
seeking re-election for the position of secretary due to his increased
responsibilities with the NHPA’s website.
He will continue as Regional Director for the WSHPA. Dave Loop made the awards for St. Jude’s Tournament. Bob Wells has been appointed to be the
coordinator for the St. Jude’s Fund Raising for next year. Dan Markley, 1st Vice-President, read the
proposals to be voted on. Results are
as follows: Article VI: Tournaments – Section 11: Replace the 2nd sentence with: “Any game between two pitchers with a 20% or lower ringer
percentage shall play to 35 points or 50 shoes, whichever comes first.” Passed: Unanimously Article II: Administration – Section 8: Add a 3rd sentence to read: “The Secretary shall be the chairperson of the Membership
Committee.” Also
add to the list of committees below the paragraph the committees chaired by the
officers and re-letter accordingly. Passed: Unanimously Article
V: By-Laws – Section 7: Change
first sentence to: “The
host club shall retain $2.00 out of each adult entry fee for court fees.” Passed:
Unanimously Article VII: State Tournament – Section 7: After an amendment was made this amended
proposal read: “Any club which meets the NHPA requirements and has 18
similar and lighted courts may bid to hold the State Singles Tournament. Bids are accepted before or at the Spring
Membership Meeting at least one year before holding the State Tournament. If more than one club bids for the State
Tournament in the same year, the membership shall vote to award which club
shall hold the tournament that year.
The Executive Council is the authority in determining if a club meets
the requirements for hosting the State Tournament.” Passed: Unanimously Article V: By-laws –
Section 4: Lower Secretary
Fee to $1.00 and Increase Newsletter to $8.00 Steve Summerlin withdrew this proposal. Article VII: State
Tournament – Section 1: Add this
sentence to the end of 1st paragraph: “Any pitcher who changes pitching distance during the year
must have pitched at least two of the required five sanctioned events at the
new pitching distance.” Passed: Unanimously President Dave Loop then asked for nominations for
Treasurer. Dan Markley nominated marty
Quillen. No other nominations were
submitted. Marty Quillen accepted
nomination and remains treasurer by acclamation. Nominations for Secretary were asked for. Steve Summerlin nominated Ron Kohn. No other nominations were submitted. Ron Kohn accepted nomination and was made
Secretary by acclamation. Kevin Smith was appointed as Chairman of a committee to look
into setting up a Junior’s Scholarship Fund, with Bob Wells and Marty Quillen
as members. Jim Norville made a motion to adjourn. Dewey Howard seconded. Meeting adjourned. |
